Typography Book

Gregg Berryman's Notes On Graphic Design And Visual Communication is still considered one of the most informative graphic design reference books, despite last being revised in 1990. While the content is very good, the copy layout, illustrations and overall feel of the book are very dated and needed a makeover.

The concept behind the book was to emphasize the "collected" content, using Haribo gummy bears as pixels to spell out the title in a fun way. The book is hand bound metal, cloth and soft plastic, with slick pages.

Scrapping everything but the bare text, a new layout was created to emphasize the content while being easy to read. White space is used to great effect throughout to emphasize the stark black and red text and illustrations.
